The Gateway Cities Council of Governments (GCCOG) formed a comprehensive initiative to address homelessness among the 27 cities and County unincorporated communities in its region. Encompassing a
diverse region that extends from coastal Long Beach to the foothill communities in the north, the GCCOG is home to more than 2 million residents and is considered a central hub for growth in the technology, transportation and tourism industries. The region presents a complex mix of economic opportunity and economic vulnerability, with a median household income of $39,625, and one-third of households earning less than $25,000. Homelessness is a
very real and multi-faceted problem in the region, with an estimated 14,000 individuals and families who are without a home.
